Guide to Visiting Disneyland

Guide to Visiting Disneyland

It’s the most magical place on Earth . . . but it’s also crowded! Make the most of your experience visiting Disneyland by following our tips for a fun trip.

Guide to Visiting Disneyland

Tip #1: Buy tickets online

Lines can be long: avoid them and purchase your tickets online. It will save you time that you’d rather spend finding Mickey and Minnie.

Tip #2: Be there when it opens

Get the most out of your money! The park opens early: be there when it opens so that you can see the park when it’s empty. About an hour after the park opens, lines begin to get very long.

Tip #3: Avoid long security lines

You will have to go through a security line: be ready for this so it goes quickly! Have your bags open and have your metal items out of your pockets. Of course, do not bring anything into the park that could seem dangerous.

Tip #4: Use a locker

You will be at the park for hours–probably well into the evening. This means you will need warm and cool weather clothes. It also means that you will be tired if you carry these items with you all day! Rent a locker and leave these items in the locker once you arrive. You will be thankful later!

Tip #5: Download the mobile app

The Disney mobile app is an excellent resource. It has a list of the show times, menus for restaurants, an ordering service for some restaurants in order to skip the lines, and other useful information. You can even buy your tickets through the app, and when you arrive to the park, you just have to show the Admissions Officer your app’s barcode.

Tip #6: Consider the FastPass

FastPass is like a reservation system for rides. For some rides (see the list below), you can put your ticket into a machine and then get a pass (a FastPass). The FastPass will list a one-hour window when you can return to the ride and wait in a shorter line.

The FastPass is only good for certain rides. You can only have one FastPass every two hours, so plan accordingly!

  • Haunted Mansion
  • Indiana Jones Adventure

Tip #7: Use the Single Rider line

If it’s not incredibly important for you to ride with your friends, consider using the Single Rider line. This line is for people who ride alone. Riders wait in this line and when there is one spot open on a ride, they can cut in front of the other visitors and fill this space.

Only some rides offer the Single Rider line.

Disneyland Single Rider Attractions:

  • Indiana Jones Adventure
  • Matterhorn Bobsleds

Tip #8: Bring lunch (and dinner)

Food is expensive at Disneyland. Bring your own snacks and meals so that you don’t have to pay so much money (although we do suggest getting one famous Disneyland churro or Dole whip!). Remember: if you reserve a locker, you can put these items in your locker while you enjoy the park.

Of course, if you do not bring food, you will have plenty of delicious options for foods inside the park!

Tip #9: Schedule your day around must-see shows

If you have to see a show, then make sure you plan your day around it. Try to schedule your day so that you end up where the show is. It’s no fun when you have to run to see a show after you’ve been walking around all day.

Tip #10: Go on rides during show times

Show times are the best times to get on rides: since everyone is at the show, the lines are short! Use this time to go on the popular rides.
